Charleston National

Charleston National was designed to be an exclusive private country club in the manner of Augusta National. Designer Rees Jones was brought in to build the finest golf course on the southeastern coast. Rees carved Charleston National along the intracoastal waterway, through the natural wetlands and lagoons and through the pine and oak tree forests. The result was a championship caliber golf course with some of the best views on the coast.

Shortly after the grand opening in September 1989, Hurricane Hugo visited Charleston National. The result was a loss of several thousand grand trees and the course was closed for a year for renovation and redesign. After the cleanup and renovation was complete, Charleston National reopened in 1991 as a semi-private facility. Now the golfing public has an opportunity to play a truly spectacular golf course at a very moderate price.
